Currently, we are bidding for Bangladesh Railways projects across India. The position of Rolling Stock Lead Specialist (Electrical) is the key position in these BIDs.
Missions/Main Duties
- Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the primary electrical technical authority for rolling stock projects, providing expert guidance, advice, and solutions to project teams, management, and external stakeholders.
- Lead and oversee the electrical design, integration, and enhancement of all electrical systems within rolling stock, including:
- Traction and propulsion systems (motors, inverters, converters)
- Auxiliary power supply systems (HVAC, lighting, communication, doors, braking, control systems)
- Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS), including software and hardware interfaces.
- Signaling and communication interfaces.
- Battery systems and energy storage.
- Wiring harnesses, cabling, and cabinet layouts.
- Diagnostic and fault-finding systems.
- Passenger information systems.
- Develop, review, and approve detailed electrical specifications for rolling stock components and systems, ensuring they meet project requirements, industry standards (e.g., IEC, EN, BS, RISSB), and safety regulations.
- Lead complex electrical fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, and resolution for rolling stock issues, often involving intricate electrical schematics and diagnostic equipment.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in railway electrical technology and propose innovative solutions to improve performance, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of rolling stock.
- Manage the electrical aspects of rolling stock projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
- Work closely with rolling stock manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure electrical components and systems are procured, manufactured, and integrated according to specifications. This includes reviewing technical proposals, conducting factory acceptance tests, and managing interfaces.
- Ensure seamless electrical integration between various rolling stock sub-systems and with the wider railway infrastructure (e.g., power supply, signaling systems).
- Identify and mitigate electrical risks throughout the rolling stock lifecycle, proposing robust solutions and contingency plans.
- Documentation: Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive electrical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures, maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings.
- Standards and Regulations: Ensure all electrical designs, installations, and modifications comply with relevant national and international railway standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Testing and Validation: Lead or oversee electrical testing programs, including functional testing, integration testing, type testing, and acceptance testing, both in factory and on track.
- Audits and Inspections: Participate in and lead technical audits and inspections of rolling stock electrical systems during manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning stages.
- Safety Critical Systems: Pay particular attention to the electrical aspects of safety-critical systems, ensuring robust design, redundancy, and rigorous testing.
- Leading Technical Teams: Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality technical output.
- Training: Develop and deliver training programs for maintenance personnel on the electrical systems of new or modified rolling stock.
- Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with mechanical engineers, project managers, operations teams, maintenance teams, and regulatory bodies.
- Maintenance Strategies: Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and procedures for electrical systems, optimizing reliability and minimizing downtime.
- Obsolescence Management: Plan for and manage obsolescence of electrical components, proposing suitable replacements or upgrade paths.
- Performance Monitoring: Analyze electrical system performance data to identify trends, predict failures, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Profile/Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 15 years of professional experience.
- Must have proficiency in English
- 10 years of professional experience in Rolling Stock procurement, including one large-scale (>USD 1 billion) underground/ elevated metro rail project.
- 2 years of work experience in outside Expert’s country
- Railway Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of overall railway system operations and interfaces (signaling, track, power supply).
- Software Proficiency: Experience with electrical design software (CAD, CAE), simulation tools, and diagnostic software.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
- Leadership: Proven leadership, team management, and mentoring abilities.
- Regulations: Familiarity with relevant national and international railway standards and regulations.
