The experienced, multi-disciplinary team at SYSTRA provides a ‘one stop shop’ of site services for complex infrastructure and construction projects, including principal contractor support, surveying, access planning, site works management, and providing safety-critical resource.

Delivering safe, efficient, compliant site works

Any major infrastructure or construction programme demands careful planning and site management to ensure projects are delivered in the safest and most efficient way, while completing work to the highest standard and complying with all regulatory requirements.

Providing site services and planning access to construction sites and transport networks requires the expertise of a broad range of specialists. It involves undertaking intrusive and non-intrusive surveys – often in highly regulated environments – managing safety on hazardous or difficult sites, planning safe and compliant access to those sites, and coordinating multiple sub-contractors from a wide range of companies to deliver a common objective.

The SYSTRA site services team has the multi-disciplinary expertise and extensive resources required to plan, manage and deliver a full range of services for complex construction and infrastructure projects in many sectors.

Discover how SYSTRA can deliver reassurance that costs, sustainability, safety, and risks will be carefully controlled through all project delivery phases.

The hugely experienced team at SYSTRA offers a multitude of specialist in-house capabilities to support successful construction programme delivery, while minimising risks and maximising efficiencies.

Understanding client requirements

Any site services or access planning project begins by gaining a full understanding of client requirements. That enables us to provide clients with clear and robust scopes of work, cost efficiencies and an accurate delivery programme.

Access planning support

A well planned and fully compliant access strategy is essential for successful project delivery. Our in-house planners produce access strategies that ensure safe access while meeting all client expectations and project requirements. Our site services team can advise on relevant constraints when planning access to both railway infrastructure and the highways environment. We have a specialised rail access/interface team who manage access onto the railway infrastructure in full compliance with Network Rail access rules and systems.

Our access planners will also recommend opportunities to accelerate the programme, implement mitigation methods and provide safety-critical resource, as well as supporting traffic management plans. We manage the entire access process, resolve any compatibility issues and provide all necessary safety paperwork to ensure projects run smoothly.

Principal contractor support

SYSTRA has a full principal contractor licence, enabling us to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate works programmes, and take a central role in managing health and safety on site. Our principal contractor work includes producing health and safety documentation, managing approval processes, providing safety inductions and ensuring welfare facilities provide a safe and comfortable working environment.

SYSTRA is the only major consultancy with a Network Rail Principal Contractors licence – allowing us to undertake construction work on all Network Rail controlled infrastructure.

Provision of safety-critical resource

We have full capabilities to provide safety-critical resource and other key competencies for the rail and construction industries. Our teams are highly trained and have an array of experience of working on large-scale infrastructure projects. Our safety competencies range from COSS (Controller of Site Safety), SWL (Safe Working Load) and PC (Practical Completion) to NEBOSH General Construction, First Aid at Work and SSSTS (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme).

Site survey capabilities

SYSTRA has comprehensive in-house capabilities in all aspects of intrusive and non-intrusive site surveys. Our survey teams and CAD technicians work closely with our access planners to minimise the time they require on site – reducing risks while developing the most efficient ways of working safely.

Our site survey capabilities include geomatics, utilities and drainage surveys, Building Information Modelling (BIM), topographical surveys, 3D laser scanning, 3D modelling and visualisation, intrusive surveys and as-built surveys.

Sub-contractor management

Sub-contractors employed by SYSTRA are an extension of our team and contribute to the successful delivery of projects. As such, they undergo a rigorous selection process, focusing on quality, safety and cost. We provide a single point of contact for all sub-contractors, ensuring we maintain consistency across all functions, prevent confusion and mitigate risk. We ensure all sub-contractors understand the scope of work, project constraints, expectations, reporting and contractual obligations – and hold regular progress meetings to ensure all requirements are being met consistently.

We appoint site works coordinators to oversee and manage all site work and ensure full cooperation between teams on site, including integration with third parties, so that each team can concentrate fully on its own work.

Value-adding site services

SYSTRA adds value to every project by focusing on our core values of quality, safety and delivery. We understand how to build productive working relationships with clients and contractors, ensuring clear communication between all parties to achieve successful outcomes.
