Acquisition of TSP Projects

SYSTRA doubles the size of its UK & Ireland operations through the acquisition of multidisciplinary engineering firm TSP Projects, enabling the business to provide a complete end-to-end service spanning every aspect of rail projects, as well as specialist understanding of mobility and complex infrastructure.

A major role on HS2

In a 50/50 design joint venture with Mott MacDonald, SYSTRA are appointed to HS2 Main Works Civils Contract, delivering scheme design for Lot N1 – Long Itchington Wood Green tunnel to Delta Junction / Birmingham Spur, and Lot N2 – Delta Junction to West Coast Main Line.

A role at Gatwick Airport Station

SYSTRA’s role on Gatwick Airport Station is secured as TSP Projects’ team of architects and engineers were tasked with developing a design which included both refurbishment of the existing facilities and new build elements, all without affecting ongoing rail and airport operations.

SYSTRA Limited is established

SYSTRA brings together the 30-strong team working in the SYSTRA UK branch together with the team from MVA Consultancy to form SYSTRA as a Limited company in the UK and Ireland.

A role on Crossrail

SYSTRA are part of the team with Bechtel and Jacobs serving as Crossrail’s project delivery partner team for the central section.
2007
RAIL SPEED WORLD RECORD

3rd April 2007 is the date the rail speed world record was reached on the High Speed Line designed and delivered by SYSTRA. The high speed train reached 574.8km/h on phase 1 of the East European HSL, inaugurated between Paris and Metz on 10th June 2007.
1997
SYSTRA appointed to HS1 channel tunnel rail link

SYSTRA delivers its first major project on UK soil. SYSTRA, a founding member of Rail Link Engineering (RLE), alongside partners Bechtel, Arup and Halcrow, had a 14% share in RLE, which successfully designed and engineered the HS1 channel tunnel rail link.

SYSTRA Group acquires MVA Consultancy

SYSTRA Group establishes its footprint across the UK and Ireland with the acquisition of transport planning, business consultant The MVA Consultancy. Bringing over 100 UK-based experts with specialisms ranging from social & market research to transport modelling in to the SYSTRA Group.

CREATION OF SYSTRA | MERGER OF SOFRERAIL AND SOFRETU

17th July 1992 marked the birth of SYSTRA, which means ‘Systèmes de Transports’ (Transport Systems). From 1992 to 1997, SYSTRA progressively integrated the activities and assignments of SOFRERAIL and SOFRETU throughout the world. This period was also marked by the development of the Group in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and in the Middle East, with the acquisition of MVA Consulting.
1985
NANTES TRAMWAY, PIONEER OF TRAMWAY RENEWAL IN FRANCE

Nantes was the first city to count on the development of a modern tramway network in its agglomeration. From 1978, SOFRETU advised the municipality in its initiative and accompanied the whole project which concluded with the commissioning of the first line at the start of 1985. The Group has since contributed to the extension of the network which, with 3 lines, has become one of the most extensive in France.
1974
VAL DE LILLE, THE WORLD’S FIRST AUTOMATIC METRO

The first metro in the world to run on VAL (automatic light rail vehicle) technology is developed in the city of Lille, France. Experts from across SYSTRA Group were mobilised for a quarter of a century from 1974 to 2000, enabling the creation of the first two lines. Since 2010, we have participated in the capacity increase of line 1, using new trains of 52 metres in length.
1960
The roots of SYSTRA in the UK are established

The UK business has its roots as far back as the 1960s with the founding of three businesses: AMV, which became MVA Consultancy; JMP; and the British Rail Design Group that became TSP Projects. They were later acquired and became the foundation of SYSTRA’s core capabilities – transport engineering and planning.
