PT-Insight is a passenger transport information system that acts as the central hub and single source of truth for managing public transport assets, data and passenger information.
The system is built on a modular architecture, allowing SYSTRA to customise the platform to local authorities’ specific operational needs. PT-Insight also integrates with other systems, exchanging data with journey planners, real-time information systems, financial management systems, and external services such as Traveline so that information remains consistent.

- Visual route building (GIS): Use integrated mapping to create and edit bus routes between stops. You can manage stop infrastructure and NaPTAN details, and view associated works orders directly on the map.
- Timetable management: Maintain bus timetable trips by defining routes, timing points, and operating calendars. This includes managing special days of operation like Christmas and bank holidays.
- Roadside displays: Automatically produce batches of timetables for bus shelters in multiple styles and sizes based on planned service changes.
- Data exchange: Export planned timetables to TransXChange XML format to supply accurate data for journey planners and real-time displays, ensuring compliance with national standards like BODS.
- Education ticketing: Manage the full process for school bus passes, from assigning pupils to the nearest services to issuing paper or smart tickets. The system also handles payments and sends automated renewal notifications to parents.
Web portals and self-service tools
Web-based portals extend the reach of the core system and streamline collaboration with external partners.
- Taxi operator portal: Supports online management of SEN and taxi contracts, including tendering, automated invoicing, automatic approval of invoices that match expected values, and email notification of new tenders to operators.
- Works orders portal: Provides online management of works orders for bus shelter contractors, allowing them to view and action the latest requirements, upload photos of work undertaken, and update the status of repairs in real time.
Staying compliant with national standards
Meeting national standards like the Bus Open Data Service (BODS) is vital. We have enhanced PT-Insight to ensure all outputs comply with the Bus Open Data Service (BODS) TransXChange PTI profile.
The system supports the import and export of all standard data formats, including TransXChange, NaPTAN, and ATCO-CIF. Our software developers and transport systems implementation specialists work closely with industry groups, such as the Public Transport Information Confederation (PTIC), to ensure our software always reflects the latest industry requirements.
