Evaluates and models carbon emissions using the results of strategic and microsimulation models.

With ENEVAL, you can produce comprehensive and reliable carbon assessments based on the Emissions Factors Toolkit (EFT) published by the British government to evaluate local air quality.

While initially developed using UK and EU databases, ENEVAL can be adapted to incorporate emissions datasets from any region in the world. Our solution fully exploits the potential of strategic and microsimulation models to offer you a detailed and personalised view of your emissions.

ENEVAL delivers crucial insights not covered by other carbon modelling software.

With ENEVAL, you can:

  • Evaluate the amount of carbon and other emissions emitted by transportation.
  • Identify the vehicle types that emit the most carbon .
  • Determine the origins and destinations responsible for most carbon emissions (areas / local authorities, etc…)
  • Measure the specific contribution of different policies and initiatives in reducing transport carbon emissions and achieving net-zero targets.

ENEVAL has been, and continues to be used on a wide range of SYSTRA UK projects e.g.

  • Clean Air Zones (including monitoring).
  • Carbon Action plans.
  • Carbon Skimming.

Assess network impact and pollution

  • Powerful in-house environmental emissions modelling tool.
  • Assesses emissions emitted by transport.
  • Uses latest COPERT emissions data and latest TAG and NAEI parameters.
  • Undertakes assessments based on strategic and microsimulation models.

    Identify sources of pollution

    • Define emissions by vehicle type.
    • Consider gradient and goods vehicle load factor calculations.
    • Identifies emission types: CO2, CO, NOX, PM2.5 and CH4.

    .

    Determine the origin of emissions

    • Pinpoints origins of carbon emissions by geographical area.
    • Identifies key trips responsible for transport emissions.

Measure the contribution of emission reduction policies and strategies

    • Create scenarios to stimulate pollution strategies.
    • Measure contribution of policies and their impact on transport.

How do I measure transport carbon emissions for local climate action plans?

Every project has unique requirements, and ENEVAL is designed to be as flexible as possible. Our specialists use the tool to move beyond general averages, providing a granular view of how different policies affect local air quality. This helps us work closely with you to pinpoint exactly where interventions will have the greatest impact on your carbon reduction targets.

Is ENEVAL compatible with international emissions datasets outside the UK?

Yes. While we initially developed ENEVAL using UK and EU databases, such as the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) and Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG), the software is flexible. SYSTRA can adapt the tool to incorporate emissions datasets from any region in the world, ensuring your carbon assessments are reliable and relevant to your local regulatory environment.

Which data sources does ENEVAL use for emissions modelling?

ENEVAL draws its data from the most trusted national and international sources to ensure your assessments are accurate and defensible. In the UK, we use NAEI and TAG parameters. This is complemented by COPERT (Computer Programme to calculate Emissions from Road Transport) data, which is the European standard for calculating vehicle emissions.

How does ENEVAL use the Emissions Factors Toolkit (EFT) for air quality assessments?

ENEVAL is designed to work with the Emissions Factors Toolkit (EFT) published by the British government. We use the EFT to provide the underlying emission rates for specific pollutants, including carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM2.5), and methane (CH4). By combining these official factors with detailed traffic data from our strategic and microsimulation models, ENEVAL provides a more granular view of how those emissions are distributed across your specific network.

How does ENEVAL support PAS 2080 carbon management standards?

ENEVAL provides a transparent and evidence-based foundation for decision-making. SYSTRA is a PAS 2080 certified organisation, meeting the global standard for carbon management in infrastructure. This means our processes—including the way we use ENEVAL—meet rigorous requirements for carbon measurement and reporting across the entire project lifecycle.
