Romain Taillandier
Director of the Mobility department
CANADA

WHAT IS YOUR JOB?

Within SYSTRA’s Transit business unit in Canada, I am the Director of the Mobility department, which includes skills in transport planning and modelling, geomatics, digital transformation and collaborative production tools such as BIM.

More specifically, I oversee the department’s service offers and projects, as well as the development of our skills and know-how and the recruitment of new talent for the team.

I have been working for the SYSTRA Group for 12 years and I help to facilitate exchanges within the various expertise networks across the different SYSTRA entities around the world.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT SYSTRA?

Since 2018, I have been responsible for developing our electromobility expertise in Canada with a particular focus on the electric bus market. To this end, we have created a digital solution called TESS, to simulate the use and charging of these buses. With TESS, we can envisage numerous scenarios for designing the best infrastructure for our clients, who are committed to the transition to more sustainable mobility.

I am also developing the department’s vision of building digital applications that enable our clients to have more control over their projects. In this way, we want to create customised tools adapted to the specific needs of our clients, allowing them to do some of the work themselves!

WHAT ARE THE 3 IMPORTANT QUALITIES OR SKILLS IN YOUR JOB?

We deal with complex subjects for our clients which are sometimes completely new. It is therefore important to be able to communicate our ideas and intentions clearly and simply so that our clients understand with confidence where we want to take them.

Our businesses are very rich and diverse. I need to understand the specifics of each discipline to facilitate the integration of systems and ensure the overall performance of the transport system.

The projects I work on are demanding. It is therefore essential to be able to set the course and objectives for the teams I lead so that they can take on the technical challenges presented with confidence.

Why SYSTRA?

SYSTRA has a global reach with reference projects in every corner of the world. I joined SYSTRA 12 years ago to work on major international projects. As well as working with experts who are passionate about what they do, I have been able to progress and take on roles with increasing responsibility.

I have worked in four different countries, with different cultures and ways of doing things. These opportunities offered by SYSTRA have contributed to my professional and personal development.
