Railways

The Ostlänken project, literally ‘East Link’ in Swedish, is a proposed 150km double-track high-speed rail line between the municipality of Jarna in Stockholm County and Linkoping in Sweden. It will be the country’s first high-speed railway line designed for trains travelling at speeds of up to 320km/h. The line will be an essential link in the future high-speed passenger rail network that will eventually connect Sweden’s three main cities, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

In 2015, SYSTRA took part in the preliminary studies for the Ostlänken 3 package (OLP 3), which links 65 km of HSL between Sillekrog, Stavjsö and around 15km of connecting tracks to the town of Nyköping. SYSTRA is now involved in monitoring the execution studies for OLP 3.

A focus on public consultation

The Swedish authorities are paying particular attention to public opinion and acceptance of the project, which is due to start construction in 2025. Entry into service is scheduled for 2035. SYSTRA’s studies will also incorporate the decisions of Trafikverket following public consultation.
