BG&E, now part of SYSTRA, provides integrated structural, civil, façade and traffic engineering services, together with transport planning, for the expansion of Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital (QEII) in Brisbane.
Expanding healthcare capacity
Opened in 1981, QEII Hospital has grown into an important healthcare facility serving communities across Brisbane’s southern suburbs. The current expansion responds to a growing and ageing population and increasing demand for surgery and other hospital services.
The new five-storey clinical services building will add 112 overnight beds and significantly increase the hospital’s surgical and intensive care capacity. Together with other upgrades across the campus, the expansion is expected to nearly double QEII’s capacity and represents its most significant development in more than a decade.
Integrated engineering and transport planning
BG&E brought together structural engineering, civil engineering, façade consultancy, traffic engineering and transport planning to support the delivery of the new facility.
This multidisciplinary approach supported coordination between the building structure, civil infrastructure, façade requirements and transport considerations within the wider hospital precinct.
