The Ahmedabad Metro, also called MEGA, is one of the most strategic transport infrastructure projects in the state of Gujarat.

This metro serves the cities of Ahmedabad, with 7.2 million inhabitants, and Gandhinagar, capital of the state of Gujarat with 1.3 million inhabitants, situated 27km apart.

A MAJOR REFERENCE FOR SYSTRA

Between 2015 and 2019, SYSTRA led a consortium comprising AECOM, Oriental Consultants and RITES for a General Engineering Consultant (GEC) contract for Phase 1 of the project.

A first section of the metro line running from east to west was inaugurated at the beginning of 2019.

A second inauguration took place in 2022 marking the final stage of Phase 1 of this unprecedented metro project, and the opening of one of the longest metro sections in the country with a length of 32km.

The Indian authorities have already begun work on a second line running north-south for which our teams were not selected and which should be commissioned during 2024.

STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY WITH SAFETY A PRIORITY

Some of the main features of this prestigious project are seamless connectivity, minimum land acquisition and cutting-edge technology, especially where safety is concerned, as was demonstrated in 2018 when the project received the Safety Innovation Award from the Institution of Engineers (India).
