Context
We are seeking an experienced Track Surveyor to provide precise surveying, setting-out, and as-built verification for the Civil/Tracks package on a major rail/metro program. Operating within a PMC scope and embedded in the client environment, you will ensure geometric accuracy, interface coordination, and compliance with technical standards from earthworks through track installation, stressing, and handback.
Missions/Main Duties
Working as part of the client’s supervision team, you will drive survey assurance and geometry control across construction and trackwork activities, safeguarding safety, quality, and schedule.
- Plan and execute surveying and setting-out for earthworks, subgrade, formation, structures interfaces, ballast/ballastless track, sleepers, rail installation, turnouts, special trackwork, and depot/yard tracks.
- Establish, verify, and maintain primary/secondary control networks, benchmarks, and track reference lines; manage control transfer and protection during construction phases.
- Perform precise layout and geometry checks for track alignment, gauge, cant, twist, versines, and tolerances in accordance with project specifications and applicable rail standards.
- Support track tamping, lining, and surfacing operations; validate post-work geometry and handback criteria; coordinate measurement for stressing and welding activities.
- Conduct as-built surveys and produce accurate deliverables (models, drawings, survey reports) for quality records, redlines, and handover packages.
- Interface with civil, structures, systems (signaling, OCS/3rd rail), and T&C teams to manage clearances, interfaces, and access sequencing; protect critical path through proactive coordination.
- Review and comment on contractor survey methodologies, method statements, ITPs, and calibration procedures; lead field audits and close out NCRs related to survey.
- Manage survey data integrity, version control, and coordinate with BIM/CDE teams to ensure a single source of truth for spatial data.
- Ensure equipment calibration, verification, and maintenance; manage instrument logs and certificates.
- Enforce HSE requirements during survey operations including traffic management, plant interface, work-at-height/confined spaces, night possessions, and hot works proximity.
- Contribute to weekly look-ahead planning, progress validation, and quantity verification to support payments and reporting.
Profile/Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics/Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of surveying experience on rail/metro or major linear infrastructure projects, with strong trackwork exposure.
- Proven experience in a PMC/client-side supervision environment overseeing contractor survey works.
- Strong understanding of track geometry, tolerances, and acceptance criteria for both ballasted and slab track systems, including turnouts and special trackwork.
- Proficiency with modern survey instruments and software: total stations, GNSS, digital levels, track geometry measurement tools/trolleys, and data processing software.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and specifications (EN/AREMA or project-specific), QA documentation, and ITPs.
- Competence in survey and CAD software (e.g., Leica/Trimble suites, Civil 3D, MicroStation, TBC).
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong data accuracy and validation discipline.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality, with thorough, timely reporting.
