In 2O2O SYSTRA completed an assignment of more than six months in Mumbai for the branding designs of station signages for the Mumbai Metro, forecast to become one of the busiest in the world.
Mumbai’s metro stations now have a single visual identity. The design assignment had one main objective: to make passenger journeys more fluid by standardising the organisation of signage and equipment.
For this project SYSTRA was lead consultant and worked with consultancy partners Design Orb and Sarg Design Studio. The assignment completed by our teams in France and India was called ‘branding designs of station’ and includes the visual chart of the metro (official logo and brand), the graphic design of the signalling, the design of equipment in the stations (including typographies and pictograms), and the official colours of each metro line including their extensions. On 28th February, our client, MMRDA unveiled this identity in its entirety via a document entitled Brand Vision and Style Guidelines.
SOLID EXPERIENCE IN BRANDING DESIGN
SYSTRA drew inspiration from the visual identities we have already created for the Paris Metro, the Marseille Metro, the Algiers Metro and SNCF. In Mumbai, the first stage of our assignment contributed to the compilation of the Brand Vision Document, a reference for the Mumbai Metro. This document includes the vision, ambition, and approach of the project, which aims to create one of the biggest public transport networks in the world.
