In 2022, SYSTRA France responded to the needs of the Ajaccio urban area community (CAPA), which was considering the creation of a new soft mode between its lower and upper towns: an urban lift solution.

WIDE-RANGING RESPONSIBILITIES

We were selected to provide project management assistance for the project, which is still in its early stages. Initially, we will carry out the feasibility studies, compile the land analysis files and the preliminary reports for the planned link (see map). In a second phase, if the client accepts our recommendations, we will assist them in putting together the study files, during the works and then during the tests and monitoring of the installations during the first two years of operation. This support could extend until 2026.

EASY ACCESS TO THE CITY CENTRE

The lift will link the lower town to the site of the Miséricorde hospital in the upper town: this hospital centre is being moved and will make way for an urban renovation project, centred around a new eco-district, on this 8.4-hectare urban brownfield site. A multimodal interchange, a 1,100-space park-and-ride facility and shops are planned in addition to the creation of housing and public facilities. The project is being carried out by local firm SPL Ametarra and the urban lift will guarantee an efficient, fast and robust link to the city centre.

The lift will be part of the overall solution to overcome the 60-metre difference in height. Additional facilities – footbridges, ramps, and conveyor belt sections – are being studied to complete the system.
