The capital of Colombia continues the expansion of its metro and chooses the consortium led by SYSTRA to design the second line of its network.

With more than 8.3 million inhabitants, Bogotá is pushing ahead with the implementation of its second Metro Line, with the selection of the Integral Structuring Consultant last month.

Line 2 will complement Line 1, which is still under construction in the hypercentre in the north-east of the capital. The stations will be interconnected with the TransMilenio Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network and the RegioTram del Norte tram-train line, for which SYSTRA is also in charge of design.

SYSTRA is leading the Unión Temporal Movius – UT Movilidad Urbana Sostenible consortium, which includes five other specialist companies, and which was selected by the FDN, the Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional of Colombia.

We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract in a dynamic capital where SYSTRA has been working on several modes of transport, and which remains promising for the years to come.

SYSTRA at the heart of the major changes in Bogotá’s transport system

As early as 2017, SYSTRA prepared the technical structuring and studies for line 1 of the Bogotá metro. The launch of this project is the culmination of a process of reflection in which SYSTRA has been involved since 1980, when we carried out a feasibility study for a metro system, our first assignment in the country.

The Group is also involved in other modes of public transport, participating in their development throughout the country: a tram-train with the RegioTram line in 2019, and urban cable car, with the San Rafael line (2018-2019), as well as major projects such as the Medellin mobility plan and the Cali tram-train.
