The programme covers four extensions to existing lines and two new lines — which will add 54.7 km and 49 stations to the network.
Building on Phase I
SYSTRA has been involved in the Pune Metro programme since 2018, as General Consultant for Phase I on behalf of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, or Maha Metro. The initial network now comprises two operational lines extending over 33.1 km and serving 30 stations.
The new mandate includes:
- the PCMC–Nigdi and Swargate–Katraj extensions to Line 1;
- the Vanaz–Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi–Wagholi/Vitthalwadi extensions to Line 2;
- two new elevated lines, 4 and 4A, connecting Kharadi, Hadapsar, Swargate and Khadakwasla, and Nal Stop, Warje and Manik Baug.
The first four corridors will extend the reach of Pune Metro’s existing north–south and east–west lines, while Lines 4 and 4A will introduce new connections across the eastern, southern and western parts of the city.
Supporting the programme from design to commissioning
As consortium lead, SYSTRA will provide end-to-end consultancy services, including tender preparation, design proof-checking, construction supervision, systems integration, rolling stock commissioning and oversight of the automatic fare collection system.
The assignment will draw on SYSTRA’s multidisciplinary metro expertise to coordinate civil infrastructure, stations, systems and rolling stock, while managing interfaces with the operational network and future interchange points.
“This new contract marks an important step in our long-standing partnership with Maha Metro. Building on the experience gained during Phase I, our teams will bring together their wide expertise to support the delivery of a coherent and integrated expansion of Pune’s metro network.”
Hari Somalraju, Managing Director, SYSTRA India
By extending metro services into fast-growing residential and employment areas, the programme will improve access to major business, commercial and educational districts. It will also create new connections with existing metro, railway and bus services, contributing to a more integrated public transport network for Pune.
