SYSTRA’s Indian teams celebrated a project milestone on April 7 with the inauguration of the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, a stretch from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, linking the city with neighbouring Mira Bhayandar in Thane district.
Inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line 9

This high-profile event was presided over by Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra State, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and marked a turning point for the project, on which SYSTRA India has been working as General Consultant since 2019.

A sustainable alternative to road transport

The almost 5-km stretch connecting Dahisar and Kashigaon, is expected to provide relief to commuters in the Mira-Bhayander region, which currently depends heavily on road transport, leading to frequent traffic congestion.

We have been contributing to the Mumbai Metro for almost two decades and we are delighted with this latest inauguration. Line 9 will improve integration across the eastern, western, and northern suburbs of Mumbai and deliver vital connectivity to key transit hubs for the residents of the Mira-Bhayandar region.

SYSTRA: a long-established collaboration with the Mumbai Metro

SYSTRA’s first assignment with the Mumbai Metro was in 2007, involving studies for Line 1 of the network, entirely constructed in U-shaped viaduct.

Since then, we have been awarded several other assignments by our client the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), including a General Consultancy contract for lines 10 and 12, a Detailed Design Consultancy contract for the depot at Kasheli on line 5, and the branding designs of station signages.
