SYSTRA accelerates the development of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro

This latest win builds on the successful delivery of the original Phase 2 design for Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRCL) and marks the next chapter in our partnership to support Ahmedabad’s evolving metro network, improving links between urban centres, economic districts, and key gateways across the city.

Strengthening Airport connectivity

This appointment includes two strategically important extensions. The first, Phase-2A | Airport Link, is a 5.11-km elevated corridor running from Koteshwar Road to SVP International Airport. With four stations, this section is designed to make airport access easier, faster, and more reliable for commuters and air travellers.

Supporting the growth of a smart city

The second, Phase-2B | GIFT City Expansion, will deliver an elevated 3.3-km metro extension with three stations, supporting the continued rise of GIFT City, a smart city and growing financial hub. The performance of public transport will be key to better connecting residents, economic opportunities and investment.

A ‘MEGA’ nickname

This metro project is also called MEGA, and this name does not only refer to the scale of this project for the region: it is also the acronym for Metro Express from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad, reflecting more concretely the route of this regional express network.
