The main targets of Quebec’s Plan for a Green Economy 2030 are to electrify 55% of city buses by 2030, and to provide transit authorities with a subsidy for the acquisition of new electric buses from 2025 onwards. In this context, the STTR wishes to electrify its garage in preparation for the delivery of their electric buses. The program for evolution and optimization of its current and future infrastructure aims to meet the needs until 2040. In order to enable the progressive electrification of the bus depot, this project will be divided into three phases:

  1. Progressive electrification of its transport centre.
  2. Extension of transport service.
  3. Increase total number of buses over time

The SyBEL consortium (SYSTRA, BPA, EXP, Lemay) was commissioned to provide professional engineering services for the development of a functional and technical program. SYSTRA Canada, alongside the other members of SyBEL consortium (SYSTRA, BPA, EXP, Lemay) carried out the following activities:

  1. Assessment of the three mechanical maintenance and electric buses recharging centres in order to prepare and present the advantages and disadvantages of each of the mechanical maintenance centres, as well as those of the current service centre, and to include orientations and recommendations on the layout of expansions in preparation for the arrival of electric buses.
  2. Preparatory studies and surveys for the three phases of the project: Carry out preparatory studies providing the basis for Project design and aimed at refining the definition of the Project.
  3. Preparation and optimization of a Functional and Technical Program (FTP): Define the scope and scale of functional, operational and technical requirements, taking into account the major issues at stake: social, urban, organizational, environmental, operational, etc.; Define appropriate action: budget, schedule, etc.
