Comprising a 67-kilometre double-track line with 26 stations, the network will link the South Shore, the North Shore, the West Island, downtown Montreal, and Pierre-Elliot-Trudeau airport.

Connected to Montreal’s existing transit networks, the REM aims to enhance the Montreal metropolitan area’s transportation options and make it easier for users to move around Montreal.

As part of the construction of the REM, NouvLR is the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor, and Equans is its subcontractor for the catenary work package.

Equans requested SYSTRA Canada’s services to carry out a rail safety audit of its catenary work on the REM project, and to identify areas for improvement that would complement the organization put in place by Equans in 2023.

SYSTRA Canada carried out the electrical safety audit in five phases:

PHASE I: Kick-off meeting; Presentation of the safety audit plan to Equans and NouvLR; Review the list of inputs to be collected after the kick-off meeting.

PHASE II: Analysis of inputs; Organization of weekly follow-up meetings.

PHASE III: Drafting of Level 1 audit report based on documentation analysis.

PHASE IV: Visit construction and assembly sites; Interview project and site managers.

PHASE V: Drafting of the Level 2 audit report, which summarizes documentation analysis, site visits, and interviews; Recommend areas for improvement in electrical safety for the REM project.
