Description Of Project

The Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) is commencing the construction of the stage 1 of the Long-Term Recycled Water Release Plan involving two trenchless crossings.

A 2400mm RCP pipe jack across the Broadwater from Quota park, Biggera Waters to South Stradbroke Island, and a 1200mm PN16 HDPE pipe crossing of the Nerang river from Winchester Street, Southport to Waterways Drive, Main Beach, to be installed by horizontal directional drilling. The purpose of the Broadwater Crossing Replacement is to provide a new pipe capable of flow rates up to 6,300L/s. The purpose of the Nerang River Crossing Augmentation is to provide an additional pipe capable of flow rates when augmented with the existing OD1000 HDPE Class 4.5 recycled Water Pipeline of up to 3,316L/s.

SYSTRA Bamser Involvement

SYSTRA Bamser were engaged by John Holland Group as the Delivery Support Services (DSS) consultant to ensure the above trenchless aspects of the project are managed and completed successfully within an acceptable risk profile.

SYSTRA Bamser provided as part of the DSS role:

  • Technical assistance compiling tender documentation.
  • Targeted review of Tunnelling/HDD Contractors Tender submissions.
  • Review and advice on contract document and scope of work.
  • A full time trenchless supervisor for the construction period;
  • Technical support reviewing contractors methodology and Project Management Plans;
  • Technical assistance with assessment of contractor claims and variations;
  • Quality acceptance throughout the delivery of the project.
