Brisbane River Crossing

Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) installed a DN900 pipeline as part of the Water Supply Zone Connection between Murarrie and Pinkenba, using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and open trenching. The pipeline was installed under the Brisbane River utilising HDD trenchless methods. The length of the HDD section was 1100m.

Our Approach

SYSTRA Bamser were engaged by Comdain/QUU for their expertise, experience, and knowledge of HDD construction techniques to assist throughout the design, procurement, and delivery phases of the project. SYSTRA Bamser’s experience was focused on the difficult ground conditions along the HDD profile.

Our scope included:

• Review of detailed design report, geotechnical, and geophysical investigation report;
• Review submitted costings based on changes to design;
• Review contractor’s submitted methodology;
• Provide on-site client representatives during 24/7 drilling works to monitor works and ensure compliance with submitted methodology;
• Assit with assessing variations and changes in proposed methodology;
• Assist with latent condition claim assessment.
