SYSTRA TEAMS MOBILISED FOR OVER A DECADE

Since August 2013, SYSTRA has been working alongside Parsons and Egis as part of the Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC) consortium, on behalf of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). We mobilised nearly 250 engineers for this project, on which we acted as PMCM (Project Management Construction Management), providing project management assistance, design, project management and construction supervision for the first three lines, Blue, Red and Orange.

This new metro, made up of six lines, will considerably change the day-to-day transport of Riyadh’s 7 million inhabitants: more than a million passengers are expected to use the network every day, with four park-and-ride facilities built as close as possible to key points to encourage a modal shift from the car to public transport.

PARTICIPATION ON ALL NETWORK LINES

From 1 December 2024, passengers on the first three lines were able to use almost 60% of the final network, i.e. around 100km of automatic driverless lines serving 46 emblematic stations, with tracks in tunnels, viaducts, on the surface and in covered trenches. The six lines of the network will be open until 5 January 2025.

Teams from SYSTRA International Bridge Technologies were involved in the design of the viaduct for the longest of the lines, line 3, from the tendering and design phase through to on-site construction supervision.

SYSTRA is also involved in the design of the extension to line 2 and in the preliminary studies, prequalification and tender monitoring for the future Line 7.

A KEY PLAYER IN ALL FORMS OF TRANSPORT IN SAUDI ARABIA

SYSTRA has been working with Saudi Arabia since 1987 to create transport networks throughout the country, particularly in Riyadh, Jeddah, Medina and Mecca. Having been involved in major metro, rail freight, planning and transport consultancy projects, SYSTRA is now fully mobilised to meet the ambitions of the Saudi government’s Vision 2030 programme.

SYSTRA’s teams are currently working in Mecca to update the feasibility study for its metro system and to build a Bus Rapid Transit system. They are also contributing to the design of tramway in AlUla, a historic city in the north-west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

They are also carrying out assignments for the Obhur multimodal bridge on the outskirts of Jeddah, for the NEOM project, and for the construction of the North-South Railway dedicated to freight and passenger transport.

Finally, our teams have signed a long-term partnership with Saudi National Railways (SAR). SYSTRA’s major contribution to these large-scale projects makes it a leading partner of the Saudi authorities in the field of mobility.
