SYSTRA joined a work group led by AIRBUS to assess the conditions for the development and deployment of e-VTOLs (vertical take-off and landing aircraft) in urban areas and also to design vertiports as well as a bespoke and integrated transport network.
Within this consortium, SYSTRA teams conducted the study of the challenges and opportunities involved in the roll-out of an urban and suburban network of e-VTOLs in seven cities: Sao Paulo, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Shenzhen, Paris, Toulouse, Jakarta.
These studies consisted of:
- Delivering a strategy to roll-out airborne vehicles in the city;
- Analysing the potential costs of this infrastructure with a view to urban development on a global scale;
- Designing different types of stations (vertiports) to manage a fleet of electric airborne vehicles at city or regional level: specialist engineering, cost analysis, recommendations for business models;
- Designing the architecture for a network which is integrated in the ecosystem of existing transport modes: urban analysis, digital mobility analysis, designing roll-out scenarios.
