For several decades, SYSTRA has designed and built underground structures all over the world, in the most demanding conditions.
Whether crossing dense urban areas, mountains or the sea, railway tunnels, road tunnels or underground stations, we have solid references in all types of underground structures, in the design and supervision of deep excavations, whatever the geological or geotechnical context, the environment or the purpose of the structure.
AT THE HEART OF THE MOST COMPLEX UNDERGROUND PROJECTS
The construction of transport infrastructure involves going beyond topography, and tunnels are one of the most striking examples of this. SYSTRA has developed a range of services to meet the needs of projects involving underground structures, whether they be rail or metro tunnels, road, or motorway tunnels, by mastering all construction methods, from the traditional method to tunnelling by TBM, for all types of soil or rock.
For example, we are working on the two longest tunnels currently under construction, the TELT (Lyon-Turin Euralpin Tunnel) between France and Italy and the Brenner tunnel linking Italy and Austria. We are also contributing to several major projects, such as Europe’s largest underground rail project, the Grand Paris Express in the Paris region.
AN INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF TUNNEL EXPERTS
SYSTRA has a total of 450 specialists in tunnels and underground structures, with over 2,000km of tunnels designed or under construction throughout the world.
SYSTRA also covers road and motorway infrastructure projects, with numerous global references such as the Nagpur – Mumbai motorway in India, the renovation of the Mont Blanc tunnel in France and the doubling of the Fréjus tunnel, the crossing of the Suez Canal by the Ismailia twin-tube road tunnel in Egypt, opened in 2019, and the NorthConnex tunnel for the Sydney ring road in Australia.
Bouygues Construction Australia and SYSTRA have worked together on several major transport infrastructure projects in Australia, such as the Melbourne Metro PPP and the Sydney NorthConnex Road Tunnel PPP. On each occasion, SYSTRA’s performance has been remarkable in many respects: responsiveness, ability to mobilise resources quickly, level of technical expertise, communication, and teamwork.
