SYSTRA has been selected to provide technical consulting services for the development of the Integrated Urban Transport Plan for the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (PITU 2040) in Brazil.

As part of a permanent process of strategic planning, PITU 2040 aims, like its predecessors PITU 2020 and PITU 2025, to develop, over the next twenty years, the mobility policy for the São Paulo Metropolitan Region, including how the public transport network will meet the needs of urban mobility and the level of investment required to implement the policy.

A prominent role for SYSTRA

SYSTRA will work on the diagnosis of the metropolitan transport system, focusing on the integration of the different modes of transport. Based on this diagnosis, SYSTRA will propose scenarios that can improve the quality of urban mobility, by reducing travel times and costs. To this end, new concepts will be incorporated, such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

SYSTRA’s teams in Brazil already have solid experience of working on sustainable mobility plans. In 2016 we contributed to the ‘PlaMobOlinda’, a Mobility Plan for the historic city of Olinda in the state of Pernambuco. In 2015 we worked on the Urban Mobility Master Plan for the city of Rio Claro in the state of São Paulo. We are therefore well prepared for this latest challenge and look forward to developing new and effective solutions for São Paulo’s transport networks.

Improving the quality of life for the citizens of São Paulo

PITU 2040, like other sustainable mobility plans, has the overall aims of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby improving air quality, promoting active modes of transport that encourage public health, and making the streets safe for all users thereby enhancing accessibility and quality of life.
