Nearly ten years after bringing a first tramway line into service, SYSTRA is back in Brest, western France, for the project management of a second tramway line, of an electric Bus rapid Transit (BRT) line and multimodal transport hubs.

Two lines for intermodality in daily transport 

The Brest’s tramway Line A, inaugurated in 2012, already carries 12.1 million passengers per year, i.e. 36,000 people a day.  

The two new tramway and bus lines should meet Brest’s ambition to reconcile the density and integration of public transport networks in the urban area. They are also in line with the ‘Plan Climat Énergie Territorial’ (territorial energy and climate plan), which favours electric modes of transport.

The Brest project aims to strengthen the transport offer for the whole city, by means of 11 multimodal hubs and the reconfiguration of certain links (with the integration of bus lanes in particular), the aim being to reducing noise pollution and carbon emissions, particularly from car traffic.  

SYSTRA has been selected by Brest Métropole as the leader the Mobi-Brest consortium which includes SCE, B3I, LA/BA, Forma-6 and Ferrand-Sigal as joint contractors, with four sub-contractors (Copenhagenize, Toolz, AUAS and Artgéo).  

We are very proud that SYSTRA has once again been chosen by Brest Métropole for this urban development project. This is a new chapter in our history with Brest. The sustainable dimension of the project is further enhanced by this French first, an electric BRT.

An ecodesign approach

The project will adopt an integrated design approach, where environmental performance and the well-being of users of the infrastructure and local residents will be considered alongside the technical and economic aspects.

Our client wants its future network to anticipate changes in energy and ecological transition.
