Orly Airport Station – France

Open to passengers on Paris metro line 14 since June 2024, Orly Airport Station now connects one of France’s main airports to the Grand Paris Express automated metro network. SYSTRA provided construction supervision from 2018 through commissioning.

Located at the heart of the Paris-Orly airport platform, close to Terminal 3, the new station is the southern terminus of line 14 and will also serve line 18, which is scheduled to reach the airport in 2027. In the long term, it will improve access to the airport by public transport and help reduce reliance on road connections.

Construction supervision for Groupe ADP

For this station, built within an operational airport environment, Société des Grands Projets delegated project ownership and design management to Groupe ADP. SYSTRA was selected by Groupe ADP in 2018 to provide external construction supervision covering all trades.

SYSTRA’s scope covered construction of the station’s fit-out works, including interior works and technical equipment: electrical systems, plumbing, ventilation, lifts and escalators. Our teams also contributed to updating the architectural BIM model and to graphical coordination, helping manage interfaces between the different trades, architects, future operators and systems teams.

A shared station for lines 14 and 18

Shared by lines 14 and 18 of the Grand Paris Express, Orly Airport Station was designed to make interchange between the two lines easier, with platforms located at the same level. The line 14 platforms are 120 m long, the line 18 platforms are 60 m long, and the platforms sit approximately 21 m below ground. The project also includes a ten-level car park, three levels of which are underground, connected to the existing parking facilities.

A station at the crossroads of the new network

Orly Airport Station brought together several major constraints: the continuous operation of the airport, interfaces with existing terminals and car parks, neighbouring airport construction works, and the successive preparation of two automated metro lines.

This assignment builds on SYSTRA’s wider involvement in the extension of Paris metro line 14, which now connects Saint-Denis – Pleyel to Orly Airport and forms a major north-south axis across the Paris region. SYSTRA contributed to this transformation as part of the Elios consortium, providing infrastructure design and supervision for the southern extension to Orly. Our teams were involved in studies, construction supervision, low-voltage systems, tunnel ventilation and smoke extraction, as well as environmental, acoustic and vibration studies along the route.
