Already involved since 2020 in the automation of Copenhagen's S-Tog suburban train network, SYSTRA will design the maintenance workshop for future trains.

This future building, which will be entirely dedicated to S-Tog trains, will be in the municipality of Vinge, in northern Denmark. Its construction represents one of the largest transport infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the country.

As part of a strong partnership with MT Højgaard Denmark (lead contractor), Artelia, Holm & Grut architects, M.J. Eriksson, Siemens and Thing Brandt Landskab our Danish teams will work on the construction of this new maintenance workshop, including a depot area for the driverless trains of the S-Tog suburban train network which serves the metropolitan area of Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen. SYSTRA Denmark has been supervising the automation of this network since 2020 in a joint venture (JV) with COWI.

An S-Tog train on the tracks

An innovative maintenance workshop

SYSTRA is providing consulting and detailed design services for railway engineering and infrastructure solutions that support Danish State Railways’ (DSB) ambitions for sustainable and efficient train operations, with a particular focus on driverless systems.

Our services include track design, potential equalisation*, local safety systems, and regulatory approval. The project will be carried out in two main phases, with SYSTRA involved from start to finish:

  • 2025-2028: The design phase, during which all parties will work closely together,
  • 2028-2031: The actual construction work will be carried out until completion.

*Potential equalisation ensures that there is no difference in electrical potential between different electrical conductors by connecting the metal elements of a building to prevent electric shocks.
