Access to the heart of the city of Perth in Australia has been sped up since the opening of the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook suburban train line on 8 December 2024, in an area of rapid population growth where car use is particularly widespread.
Shorter journey times and sustainability
The aim is to halve journey times from the new terminus and make mobility carbon-free. From day one, more than 40,000 passengers have used this line of 21km and five stations.

Four years of systems involvement
Since 2021, teams from SYSTRA Australia, then known as Rail Systems Australia, have been working for the constructor Laing O’Rourke and the Public Transport Authority of Perth to carry out design studies, supervision of execution and commissioning of signalling, communication subsystems, operational engineering, the management system (SCADA) and systems assurance.
Our Systems teams have been able to demonstrate their expertise in this area to the great satisfaction of our clients, and our aim is to become the engineering reference for Australia and New Zealand.
Efficient use of digital tools
To design the systems, SYSTRA used digital engineering tools (BIM modelling, commissioning management software, etc.) to refine the layout of the equipment and provide the Public Transport Authority with an integrated communications network.
