Since its launch in 2007, the project for line 3 of the Hanoi metro, also known as the ‘Temple of Literature Line’, has represented a challenge for SYSTRA: it is the largest scope of work ever obtained by the Group on its own, without any co-contractor or consortium partner.
MEETING THE CAPITAL’S TRANSPORT NEEDS
Line 3 of the Hanoi metro will bring public transport closer to more than 20% of the population and link six districts of the city. This will be a real revolution for this metropolis, where demand for mobility infrastructure is high.
In the first stage, line 3 will link the Nhổn district to the Cầu Giấy district via an overhead section, with inauguration scheduled for 14 September 2024.
In a second stage, line 3 will plunge deeper to reach Hanoi Station, the Vietnamese capital’s main multimodal hub, where it will connect with line 1. This section is not due to enter service before 2027.
A WIDE RANGE OF RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SYSTRA
We are acting as Project Implementation Consultant for the overhead section, as well as Engineering Office for all the work packages, both civil engineering and systems, and, since November 2022, as Shadow Operator to train the staff on this new line.
IMPORTANT MILESTONES
In 2023, we won additional contracts to supervise the design and construction of line 3 to complete this project, which is emblematic of our expertise. At the end of July 2024, the Hanoi metro welcomed its first tunnel boring machine to start digging the tunnels for line 3.
