On 29 August 2022, the electrification of the Gretz – Troyes line was officially completed in the east of the Paris region with the entry into service of the first electric trains on the Transilien (regional) network.
A CHALLENGE: ELECTRIFY WITHOUT INTERRUPTING TRAIN TRAFFIC
SYSTRA France assisted SNCF Réseau with the project management for the entire project, from the studies initiated in 2016, up to the tests, coordination, and commissioning. This project mobilised various areas of expertise within the French FIT (Railways) department.
The aim was to transform the line without interrupting operations. The work was carried out during the week, at night, with traffic being restored in the morning, requiring the teams to phase the 40-month project precisely and ensure a high level of safety.
SERVING THE ENVIRONMENT
The electrical connection of this line marks a new stage in the electrification of the Paris suburbs, with direct benefits for the health of local residents and for the environment: quieter trains that emit 30 times less CO2, with a better interconnected network for electric trains’ operation.
