Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor -India

The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is a national programme to create 1,875km of new logistics lines between Dankuni in West Bengal and Ludhiana in Punjab state. The programme is part of the wider Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) programme.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AT THE HEART OF THE PROJECT

Since 2013, SYSTRA has participated in several projects on the three main sections of the EDFC of which two have been awarded for excellence in Health, Safety and Security (3S). On the EDFC-3 section (222km between Khurja and Pilkhani), the team was awarded in 2018 for its contribution to 1.78 million man hours without Lost Time Incident (LTI) by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd* (DFCCIL). The same year, on the EDFC-2 section (393km between Mughalsarai and New Bhaupur), the 20 million man hours mark was surpassed without LTI. The EDFC-2 also received a Platinum Award for achievement in environmental management at the Apex India Environment Excellence Award 2018.

COMMISSIONING OF EDFC-2

In 2023, our teams in India celebrated the commissioning of EDFC-2. For SYSTRA India’s Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team, this was the culmination of 7 years’ work to complete this 422km section. Our Indian colleagues made a major contribution to the planning and coordination of the project, notably for:

• the review and approval of conceptual studies,
• computer models,
• design calculations,
• preliminary construction drawings for the various types of bridges over which the EDFC-2 line will pass.
