Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a rail transport network serving the entire San Francisco Bay area in the United States. As the population of California continues to grow, the authorities have decided to increase the transport capacity of this network by automating it with a CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system.
SYSTRA: A KEY PLAYER IN THE FUTURE OF BART
SYSTRA has played a pivotal role in keeping BART trains moving over the years and into the future. Our US teams were initially hired to review and evaluate BART’s new Integrated Control System (ICS) designed to supervise all train movements. SYSTRA identified risks and recommended solutions for ICS to BART. Since then, SYSTRA has provided expertise on numerous train control, emergency preparedness and engineering assignments to BART to ensure safety and reliability for its riders.
SYSTRA’s CBTC EXPERTISE ACKNOWLEDGED
In 2020, we were awarded a long-term project to provide BART with Design Services During Construction (DSDC) to deploy the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC*) system for the entire network. Our long-standing knowledge of CBTC projects around the world and the growth of our activities in this area are key assets in successfully completing this project.
*A CBTC system is an automatic traffic control system based on communication between the track and the trains.
