Since 26 September 2026, cars and heavy goods vehicles have been using the new Mosquito Road Bridge in California, a structure designed by SYSTRA International Bridge Technologies (SYSTRA IBT) in collaboration with its North American partner, Consor.

SYSTRA IBT, together with Consor, was responsible for the preliminary design, the detailed design of the deck and piers, and the review of the foundation and abutment designs for this structure, which is 360 metres long and has a main span of 163 metres.

A bridge that will benefit all road traffic

This new bridge will provide a safer and more direct link between the rural Swansboro area and the town of Placerville. It will also serve as a new access route for emergency services and as an essential evacuation route in the event of a fire or an earthquake in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

The Mosquito Road Bridge replaces the historic one-lane wooden suspension bridge opened in 1939, which is now closed to vehicles. The original bridge is now reserved for active modes of transport – pedestrians and cyclists – ensuring they can cross safely and peacefully.
