At the end of 2025, SYSTRA India and UkMRC (Uttarakhand Metro Rail, Urban Infrastructure & Building Construction Corporation) signed a contract for a feasibility study for a ropeway network in Nainital. These cable transport corridors aim to provide the region with new aerial links to boost tourism and the local economy.
A comprehensive network of four ropeway lines
The aim of the feasibility study is to propose a framework for a safe, sustainable and modern transport solution that is adapted to the terrain and whose routes meet the travel needs of local residents, tourists and pilgrims, particularly for access to the sacred space of Neem Karoli Baba Ashram.
In addition to network planning and route analysis, SYSTRA will evaluate the various technological solutions and traffic forecasts and will conduct an environmental impact study. The choice of ropeway as the mode of transport is justified by the need to reduce congestion on narrow mountain roads that are susceptible to bad weather, preserve the forest and wildlife ecosystem, and ensure accessibility for all passengers.
SYSTRA’s international expertise in cable transport
SYSTRA India’s teams will be able to capitalise on the global expertise acquired by SYSTRA in cable transport, whether in France (in Toulouse and Marseille), the United Arab Emirates (Dubai STS) or Georgia and Colombia.
In India, the Group had already won a study in 2020 for ski lifts in the Killar Valley for the Himachal Pradesh government.
