On 5 July 2025, China’s first Legoland amusement park, Legoland Shanghai Resort, opened in the city of Fengjing in the district of Jinshan. This park, the 11th Legoland in the world, is also the largest of its kind, covering an area of 31.8 hectares (ha), which is larger than Parc Astérix (18 ha) in France but smaller than Disneyland Paris (52 ha) or Disneyland Shanghai (90 ha). And to move around efficiently in such a vast space, Forrec, the park’s lead experience designer, called on SYSTRA Hong Kong.
SYSTRA contributes to a major new destination in Asia
With its numerous attractions and immersive Lego-themed experiences, Legoland Shanghai Resort is expected to draw millions of visitors annually. Therefore, one of the key challenges of the project was in designing the internal traffic and transport facilities and external road networks capable of handling mega volumes of visitors arriving and departing within short timeframes.
The solution involved an Overall Planning Strategy and Multi-Modal Access integration resulting in the creation of:
- Public Transport Hub with Adequate Capacity,
- Public Transport Linkage with Major Transport Hubs,
- Mass Private Car Parking with Multiple Accesses,
- Divergent and Convenient Access Routes with Minimal Conflicts and Cross Movements for Multi-Modal Traffic,
- Safe and Spacious Pedestrian Walkway and Connections.
Once again, our teams’ technical and innovative ability and reputation have been firmly acknowledged with this project. Legoland Shanghai is set to become a landmark family destination in China, and we are delighted to have made such a significant contribution to its creation working closely with our partners, Forrec, a global design firm, and the client’s team.
