SYSTRA is strengthening its footprint in India with a new metro in Visakhapatnam, more commonly known as Vizag. The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (APMRCL) awarded the contract to SYSTRA following a competitive international bidding process.
As the project’s Engineer, our teams will oversee end-to-end delivery, including:
- Planning & design coordination,
- Tendering & contract administration,
- Construction supervision and commissioning the project.

Asia’s longest bi-level viaduct
Construction scheduled to commence this year in October, this landmark project features one of Asia’s longest bi-level viaduct – an engineering feat that optimizes urban land use, minimizes community disruption, and showcases innovative space-saving design.
The first phase of the Visakhapatnam Metro will feature three strategic lines, followed by a second-phase extension connecting to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. With this project, the authorities aim to support the development of the region, which aligns with the region’s emergence as a major financial hub and a key technological centre in India, to improve urban mobility with a modern network and to reduce road congestion.
