At the end of 2025, SYSTRA announced its ambition to expand into adjacent markets, targeting water management projects in particular. This strategy is now taking shape, with BG&E – Part of SYSTRA, in partnership with CPB Contractors, winning a contract to design and oversee the modernisation of the Orchard Hills water filtration plant, starting in mid-February 2026 for an initial period of 12 months.
This is an important success for us: our teams will be working with one of Australia’s largest construction companies and a leading partner in the field of water management, CPB Contractors, and our client Sydney Water is Australia’s largest water management organisation.
John Conroy, Water Infrastructure Lead, BG&E – Part of SYSTRA

Establishing SYSTRA in water management is fully in line with our strategy for growth in adjacent markets, with the ambition that these activities will represent 10% of our total revenue by 2030. BG&E’s expertise and track record, particularly in complex buildings and infrastructure, are valuable assets. We are also counting on the mobilisation of the entire Group to contribute to other types of projects.

Ensuring the quality of water supplied to Sydney residents
Built in 1993, the Orchard Hills drinking water production plant supplies 260,000 residents of the towns of Penrith and Blue Mountains. It filters water retained by the Warragamba Dam, whose quality can be degraded by climatic hazards such as severe storms or bushfires following droughts. To improve water treatment, it was decided to build a new filtration unit.
Our teams will be responsible for project management of studies, civil engineering design, structures and hydraulics, materials engineering and site assessment, before subcontracting process monitoring and mechanical studies. Once the studies are complete, we will support the construction work.
