Context

SYSTRA is looking for a passionate and skilled Sustainability Engineer to join our team and support the integration of sustainable design and environmental performance across major infrastructure and mobility projects. This role will be instrumental in ensuring that our projects meet international sustainability standards and local green building regulations, contributing to SYSTRA’s mission of building climate-resilient, future-ready transport solutions.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Develop and implement sustainability strategies across project lifecycle stages, including planning, design, construction, and operation.
  • Conduct environmental and energy performance assessments (e.g., carbon footprinting, life cycle analysis, resource efficiency, energy analysis, water saving analysis, daylight and shading analysis).
  • Prepare documentation for green building certifications (e.g., LEED, Estidama, Envision, Al Sa’fat, Mostadam, GSAS, or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers to embed sustainability into design solutions.
  • Ensure alignment with local authority requirements and sustainability frameworks (e.g., RTA, Dubai Municipality, Vision 2030, Green Building Codes).
  • Provide input on materials selection, energy modeling, water efficiency, waste reduction, and climate resilience measures.
  • Review and advise on specifications to enhance environmental performance and ensure compliance with sustainability targets.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and consultations, communicating sustainability goals and performance benchmarks.
  • Support the development of sustainability reports, performance dashboards, and project sustainability narratives for tenders or authority submissions.
  • Track and report on sustainability KPIs across project stages and support continuous improvement.
  • Identify and assess environmental risks and opportunities, ensuring that environmental protection measures are integrated into project planning and design.
  • Lead/support the preparation of environmental studies like Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and related baseline studies in line with local and international standards.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Building Science, MEP or a related discipline.

Background: 

  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant sustainability experience, ideally in large-scale infrastructure, transportation, or urban development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental standards and sustainability frameworks (e.g., LEED, Estidama, Envision, Al Sa’fat, Mostadam, GSAS, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in sustainability tools and software such as Revit, OneClick LCA, e-Quest, IES-VE, SimaPro, EnergyPlus, SoundPLAN or equivalent.
  • Experience with BIM-integrated sustainability workflows is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with climate change adaptation, embodied carbon analysis, and renewable integration.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Working knowledge of GCC environmental regulations and local authority requirements (e.g., RTA, DM, ADM, or similar).
