SYSTRA Canada is proud to announce its appointment to the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Ontario as a member of the design joint venture for the Hamilton LRT Civil & Utilities Alliance, mandated by Metrolinx to deliver the civil and utility works for the future transit line. Alongside Hatch and Egis, SYSTRA Canada will contribute to the engineering and design services required for this major transit project, which represents a significant investment in mobility for the City of Hamilton.

SYSTRA Canada selected to contribute to the development of the future Hamilton LRT as part of the design joint venture responsible for civil works and utility systems.

Planned to run along a 14-kilometre corridor through the urban core of the city, the Hamilton LRT will connect key destinations from McMaster University to Eastgate Square, strengthening east-west mobility across the municipality.

Once in service, the network will improve access to public transit for residents, strengthen intermodality with local and regional transportation networks, and support more sustainable urban development along the corridor.

The project will also support the long-term economic growth of the City of Hamilton.

The project will be delivered through an integrated alliance model bringing together public and private partners for the design, construction, and delivery of the project.

In this context:

  • Metrolinx is the project owner
  • Aecon is leading construction activities
  • Hatch, Egis, and SYSTRA Canada form the joint-venture responsible for the design of the civil works and utility systems, as well as the preliminary studies related to stations, track, and transportation systems

This collaborative approach is intended to ensure close coordination among all stakeholders from the earliest stages of the project, promoting integrated planning and optimized execution.

The project is now entering an approximately 18 to 24-month development phase during which the partners will work jointly to refine the technical requirements, delivery strategy, cost parameters, and implementation schedule.

This stage will help establish the foundations required for future construction activities and advance preparatory work across the entire corridor.

SYSTRA Canada’s participation in the Hamilton LRT project reflects the continued growth of its rail and public transit project portfolio in Canada, as well as its recognized expertise in delivering complex, multidisciplinary transportation infrastructure programs.

By contributing to the development of this major urban mobility corridor, SYSTRA Canada continues its commitment to shaping the future of more sustainable mobility across the country.
