Austin Transit Partnership, formed by the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (officially stylized as CapMetro) and the city of Austin, Texas is planning on expanding CapMetro rail service, one of these is the Blue Line which is a planned light rail line for connecting Austin–Bergstrom International Airport with downtown Austin.

It is still in the planning stages as a part of Capital Metro’s Project Connect. It is estimated to begin revenue service as early as 2029.

SYSTRA Canada’s mandate is to offer vehicle engineering support for the new light rail vehicles (LRVs) to be procured for the blue line, including supporting the development of the technical specification and providing dynamic envelope clearance assessment and drawings.

The LRVs are to be state of the art and have the following features:

  • Catenary free and equipped with onboard batteries and/or super capacitors with charging at stations or in tunnels;
  • 100% low floor;
  • ADA compliant;
  • High speed (120 km/h+).
