This project involved the design and construction of accessibility upgrades to the 149th Street – Grand Concourse Station Complex, which is the fourth busiest in The Bronx with nearly 4 million riders a year. Because of the complexity of the multi-level station, multiple elevators were constructed to connect all levels from the street to the lowest level.

SYSTRA coordinated the design and oversaw the construction of this work that included restoration and preservation of historic landmark elements.

The stations remained open for public use throughout construction. SYSTRA worked with the client and stakeholders while maintaining a safe work site, overseeing adherence to environmental performance commitments, responding to unexpected conditions, and working through construction sequencing and commissioning.
