Stations and Railway Redevelopment

SYSTRA India is delivering comprehensive Project Management Consultancy Services (PMCS) for the flagship redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS). As a pivotal brownfield infrastructure initiative, this project is set to transform one of India’s busiest transit nodes into a world-class, airport-like multi-modal hub. By leveraging global engineering expertise, the redevelopment addresses the immense logistical challenge of a station that handles over 500,000 passengers daily across 16 active platforms.

The transformation is anchored by the construction of modern linear station buildings at both the Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate entries. This ensures high-capacity access from both sides of the city. A centrepiece of this modernization is the dedicated Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH-2). As a result, it will streamline the integration of rail, metro, and bus services. Throughout this massive upgrade, SYSTRA India ensures a passenger-centric experience and operational continuity. In doing so, it sets a new benchmark for sustainable urban transit in Northern India.

Key features of the project

  • Brownfield Project: Full redevelopment of the operational station precinct. The New Delhi Railway Station Redevelopment Project ensures zero disruption to daily rail services and passenger movement. This is crucial in a high-traffic urban environment.
  • Station Building: Construction of new linear buildings takes place on both sides: Paharganj replaces existing structures alongside Platform 1. Meanwhile, Ajmeri Gate buildings stand alongside Platform 16. These buildings feature modern architecture, expanded concourses, retail spaces, and superior passenger amenities.
  • Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH-2): An iconic hub is planned at the Paharganj side to provide seamless connectivity across rail, metro, buses, taxis, autos, and pedestrian links. Notably, this includes a dedicated concourse for airport transfers.
  • Multi-Storey Residential Complex: Development of 72 Type-II and 72 Type-III staff quarters will take place at Ramnagar Railway Colony on the Paharganj side. This supports railway personnel.
