The Pune metro project, for which SYSTRA is the leader of a consortium comprising Egis, Aecom and Rites, welcomed its first passengers on 6 March.

On 6 March 2022, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the metro system in the city of Pune. A total of about 19,000 passengers boarded the trains on the inauguration day, including the Prime Minister, who travelled on the line from Garware College to Anandnagar station, accompanied by a group of school children.

SYSTRA has been working on the Pune Metro Rail Project since 2018 when our teams in India were awarded the General Consultant contract for Phase 1 on behalf of Maha Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of the state of Maharashtra.

In just four years, a 12 km network was built with 10 stations, divided between two lines on an east-west axis.

Our teams in India are privileged to be playing a key role in this project and our commitment to its success has been fully demonstrated through its fast-track progress and innovative use of technologies, among which solar energy and digital payments.  We look forward to accompanying our client on all future assignments up until the opening of the entire network.
