Occupying the Old Historical Wan Chai Police Station building located in the Wan Chai North District, one of the primary and essential objectives of IOMed is to develop a carefully planned and coordinated traffic design that meets international standards for this prestigious institution. This comprises of a comprehensive design of the vehicular access and drop-off zones, the internal parking arrangement as well as the internal traffic circulation. The design aims to provide every guest and staff member visiting IOMed with a seamless, efficient, and convenient arrival experience. Additionally, SYSTRA Hong Kong has explored the effective traffic measures to expedite the construction works, ensuring the timely commencement of operation of the IOMed headquarter.

SYSTRA Hong Kong provided Traffic Consultancy Services for Traffic Layout Design in Enhancing the Mobility of IOMed
The Exceptional Background of the selected site for IOMed’s headquarter is a key highlight of this project. The IOMed’s headquarter is located at the Old Wan Chai Police Station, which is a Grade II historic building constructed in 1932. Situated at Wan Chai North, abutting one of the busiest transport corridors on Hong Kong Island, this site is both prominent and accessible. The refurbishment and restoration work on this existing building to accommodate the IOMed took careful planning and consideration to ensure all the operational requirements are met without major changes to the original building.

The Internal Traffic Layout is particularly limited and constrained by the existing U-shaped building. SYSTRA Hong Kong, as the Traffic Engineering Consultants, has successfully reconfigured the existing traffic layout, enhanced the overall traffic circulation while accommodating essential transport provisions. Additionally, the Traffic Arrangement along the access route from external roads through the vehicular entry into the internal layout has been thoroughly analysed and effectively improved to enhance the arrival experience to the IOMed’s headquarter.

The Study was led by Ir Francis Sootoo, Vice President, Consulting Business Asia and supported by Mr. George Lee, Technical Director and his Team working closely with the contractor and project team.
