Raghunandan Chappalli, Business Head- Design

BIO

As the Business Line Head – Design at SYSTRA India, Raghunandan Chappalli commands over 24 years of global expertise in transport infrastructure. Internationally credentialed as a Chartered Professional Engineer (MIEAust) and a Project Management Professional (PMP), Raghu is a transformative leader. He infuses technical excellence with a culture of collaborative growth.

In his current role, Raghu sets the strategic direction for SYSTRA’s design function. He leads multidisciplinary teams on nation-building projects including the Mumbai, Chennai, Dhaka, and Bengaluru Metros. He also leads international collaborations like HS2 in the UK. His career is defined by high-impact leadership in Australia, where he directed complex brownfield and greenfield integrations for RailCorp and Sydney Trains. In addition, he specializes in systems assurance and Automatic Train Protection (ATP) programs.

A champion of digital transformation, Raghu has pioneered the adoption of BIM workflows and advanced digital engineering to enhance project traceability and cost-efficiency. His people-centric approach fosters an environment where innovation thrives. He mentors the next generation of engineers to deliver sustainable, future-ready urban mobility solutions. Through his commitment to safety and ethical business conduct, Raghu continues to position SYSTRA as a trusted partner for next-generation infrastructure across India and beyond.
