The Bladensburg bus facility, one of the oldest in WMATA’s system, is being replaced with a new state-of-the art facility and parking garage. SYSTRA, a member of the design/build team, is the electrical and communications designer of record and responsible for systems integration and safety and security certification.
SYSTRA’s design, being performed in BIM, will feature key plan drawings of copper and fiber optic infrastructure, locations of local area network switches, rack layout drawings, CCTV headend/local distribution/hardware attachment drawings, public address system headend/hardware attachment drawings, and emergency telephones.
In addition to modernizing the facility, the team is also preserving a historic landmark while improving essential bus operations and maintenance for a fleet that provides much-needed transportation to passengers throughout the Washington, DC, metro area. The work is being carried out via a three-phased demolition and construction process that will allow the facility to remain open during modernization.
