New iconic train hall in New York

SYSTRA’s U.S. teams have provided various engineering services for this station renovation and expansion project since the beginning in 2007, notably work related to the relocation of trainshed level utilities, including lighting, platform level communications, signals, traction power and overhead catenary at track level. We also performed feasibility and impact studies for work planned to be performed inside the trainshed.

Moynihan Train Hall, named after former U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who proposed the project in the 1990s, is the result of the transformation of the century-old James A. Farley Building into a modern gateway that enlarges Penn Station, the main intercity railroad station in New York City, vastly improving the traveler experience.

The Moynihan Train Hall is a new transportation hub and will serve as a new entry and departure point to the growing NYC. This project is an extraordinary example of collaboration and teamwork. SYSTRA is honored to have been involved with this project since its inception.

A major transportation hub that increases the existing Penn Station rail complex’s space by 50%, the new Moynihan Train Hall provides a world-class intercity and commuter passenger boarding concourse for Amtrak and MTA-Long Island Rail Road passengers, including expanded ADA* compliance and a sky lit atrium.

It is our mission to deliver top quality transportation projects to improve mobility for all. Using universal accessibility concepts in the design of the Moynihan Train Hall is representative of this practice.
