Metro

In Denmark, SYSTRA has been involved in all existing metro lines in the Copenhagen metro. Internationally, SYSTRA has contributed to nearly 1 in 2 metro lines worldwide. We have participated in building systems from the ground up, developing new lines, expansions, optimizations, and fully automating existing infrastructure. Our experts cover all aspects of metro projects, from initial studies and design to operations and maintenance.

Light rail

Light rail offers transportation to travelers within limited urban spaces where cars, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians takes up much space. At SYSTRA, we conduct studies and analyses of light rail as an alternative to buses, cars, or metro systems in urban areas. Our extensive technical expertise in rail transport has been applied to light rail projects worldwide, including in Denmark and Norway.

Roads and urban spaces

Modern road networks and urban spaces must meet today’s demands for sustainability, climate adaptation, accessibility, and traffic safety. This forms the basis for our solutions in the development of new infrastructure, renovations, or maintenance of roads and public spaces. We engage in all phases of the process, from early-stage planning and land development to design, preparation of drawings and technical specifications, and creating tender documents, as well as providing support during the construction phase.

Motorways

We are committed to exploring more sustainable alternatives in bridge construction, which is why we continuously work on life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations and the use of new and more sustainable types of concrete, as well as timber structures as alternatives to concrete and steel.

SYSTRA has been involved in major tunnel projects around the world, such as the Euralpin Lyon-Turin Tunnel, the Ismailia twin-tube road tunnel under the Suez Canal, the renovation of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, and the largest underground railway project in Europe: the Grand Paris Express in the Paris region.

We leverage our specialized knowledge in the design and maintenance of load-bearing structures in various contexts related to both construction and infrastructure. Martin Vilhelmsen new department manager for Environment, Water & Area

At SYSTRA Denmark, Water is one of our five strategic markets—alongside Rail, Roads, Energy and IT. We are therefore delighted to welcome Martin Vilhelmsen to the team as the new Department Manager of Water, Environment and Land. Martin brings deep technical expertise in large multidisciplinary and cross-cultural infrastructure projects, sustainability, wastewater and climate adaptation.

Experience from Scandinavia and Asia

Martin joins us from a role as Project and Market Manager at Envidan, where he led a sales organization and delivered projects across Denmark. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Project Director and Portfolio Manager at COWI, responsible for a comprehensive wastewater and climate adaptation portfolio, financial performance, risk management, and coaching of project managers.

Earlier in his career, Martin served as Project Director at SWECO, where he oversaw two major infrastructure projects in Asia—experience that gives him an international outlook and robust credentials in delivering complex assignments.

Water is one of our five strategic focus areas, and with Martin as department head we are strengthening both our market position and our ability to deliver sustainable, scalable solutions. Martin’s combination of strong portfolio management, international project leadership experience, and business acumen will support the development of our water market and create value for our clients.
