SYSTRA advises Femern A/S on the fixed Fehmarnbelt link.

TWO-LANE HIGHWAY IN EACH DIRECTION AND TWO ELECTRIFIED RAILWAY TRACKS

Femern A/S has now found its daily consultant for the railway technical installations on the fixed Fehmarnbelt link. After a tender round, SYSTRA (formerly Atkins Denmark) was chosen, and the two parties have just signed a framework agreement with a start date of January 1, 2020.

We are very excited to make our strong railway engineering competencies available to Femern A/S. The fixed link is the largest construction project in Denmark and at the same time a project that will really have an impact on the Danes by connecting Denmark better with the rest of Europe. SYSTRA (formerly Atkins Denmark) has already been a consultant on several of the largest railway projects in Denmark for decades, most recently the new Copenhagen-Ringsted line and the Metro Cityringen and currently on the Signal Programme, and this massive experience will naturally be brought into the work on Fehmarnbelt.

Eli Skop, Director of Consultancy at SYSTRA Denmark

The Fehmarnbelt tunnel between Rødby and Puttgarden contains two tunnel tubes with a two-lane highway in each direction and two electrified railway tracks.

The agreement between Femern A/S and SYSTRA includes consultancy tasks in the preparation of basic design of railway works; preparation and finalization of tender processes; review of detailed design and supervision of railway construction works; testing and commissioning processes; and definition and management of technical interfaces.

As a sub-consultant on the project, SYSTRA has brought in the German company GAUFF, which will manage the interfaces with the German part of the railway and regulatory processing in Germany.

The framework agreement period is 8 years with the possibility of extension for three times two years.
