SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The project involves a complete renewal of the overhead contact line system over approximately 33 track kilometers on the main section of the S-train line A between Østerport and Holte.
The project is planned to be executed in two contracts, and at SYSTRA Denmark, we will be responsible for the detailed design of the system as well as the preparation of the tender documents. It is a welcome revisit, as we completed the program phase back in 2016, during which the main design of the new overhead contact line system was developed.
The project has just started and is expected to be completed in 2029, when the section will be fully upgraded and ready for operation with the new catenary system.
A BUSY RAILWAY LINE REQUIRES METICULOUS PLANNING AND EXECUTION
The reconstruction of the 33 km overhead contact line system is done on a busy railway, which places high demands on planning and execution. Therefore, we use our intuitive design tool MSCATS, which has been used for implementing SYSTRA’s overhead line projects for over 25 years.
I was personally involved in the development of MSCATS at the time, and it is a tool specifically tailored to deliver this type of project. Additionally, we have extensive experience with the S-train network in general, including the tendered section Østerport – Holte, where we have prepared the definition and program phases.

In addition to the renewal section, we are currently working on the track renewal project Svanemøllen – Hillerød and have previously carried out the renewal of the converter station at Svanemøllen, which borders the section Østerport – Holte. Both projects were commissioned by Banedanmark.
We look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration with Banedanmark and are pleased to contribute to strengthening the railway network in Denmark, ensuring a future-proof infrastructure for the benefit of passengers.
